US Stocks Mixed as Indexes Head for Best Quarter Since 2020
US stocks were muted before the bell on Tuesday as the main indexes zeroed in on their best quarter in six years and traders awaited the first set of key economic data due for the holiday-shortened week.
The S&P 500 Index rose 0.1% at 9:48 a.m. in New York, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index rose 0.6%. Both gauges are likely to finish the session with their best quarter since June 2020.
Europe:
German Inflation Eases as Oil Retreat Tames Prices in Europe
German inflation cooled more than expected in June, part of a slowdown across most of the region brought on by the drop in global oil prices.
The reading for Europe’s biggest economy fell to 2.4% from 2.7% in May, the statistics office said Tuesday.
Asia:
Japan’s Factory Output Rises as Iran Fallout Remains Manageable
Japan’s factory output rose in May as manufacturers were able to cope with the fallout from the war in Iran.
Industrial production climbed 0.5% from the previous month, the Industry Ministry reported Tuesday.
