US Retail Sales Rise Modestly as Consumers Spend Less on Gas
US retail sales rose modestly in June, dragged down by a drop in gas-station receipts that masked strong gains at some merchants.
The value of retail purchases rose 0.2% in June after a revised 1% advance in May, Census Bureau data showed Thursday.

UK Economy Grows as Services Defy Energy, Political Turmoil
The UK economy unexpectedly grew in May, suggesting that consumers and businesses were more resilient than feared in the face of political turbulence and the Iran war energy shock.
Gross domestic product rose 0.1% after a 0.1% decline in April, the Office for National Statistics said Thursday. Economists expected no change.

Japan’s Household Inflation Expectations Hit Highest Since 2006
Inflation expectations among Japan’s households climbed to the highest level in data back to 2006, supporting Bank of Japan’s stance to keep raising interest rates.
Households see annual inflation averaging 10.8% over the next five years, according to the central bank’s quarterly survey released Thursday.
