US Adds 162,000 Jobs, Topping All Estimates in Broad Advance
US job growth surged in August and the unemployment rate held steady, suggesting the labor market has more momentum than previously thought.
Nonfarm payrolls increased 162,000 last month and July’s job losses were revised away, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data out Friday. The August increase topped all estimates in a Bloomberg survey. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1%.

Economists See Final ECB Hike Next Week in Split With Markets
Economists think the European Central Bank will raise interest rates next week but not beyond that, a far more dovish outcome than markets are currently betting on.
The overwhelming majority of respondents in a Bloomberg survey expect the deposit rate to be raised by a quarter-point to 2.5% on Thursday and stay there through 2027. Traders, on the other hand, are pricing about three more hikes by mid-next year.

Takaichi Lauds ‘Transparency’ of Japan’s Record Budget Requests
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi touted the formulation of Japan’s record spending requests as increasing the transparency and discipline of the country’s finances after an overhaul of the budget-making process.
Takaichi’s government has promised to review and cut back on unnecessary spending programs and is trying to incorporate more forward-looking investment into the budget, but the biggest change is an attempt to end Japan’s postwar reliance on extra budgets.
