US 10-Year Yield Rises to Highest Since 2007 as Fed Looms
The 10-year US Treasury yield rose to the highest in almost two decades, the latest milestone in a bruising global bond selloff driven by surging energy prices, mounting debt and persistent inflation.
The yield on the global bond benchmark rose as much as five basis points to 5.04% on Tuesday, surpassing a peak from 2023 to hit the highest since 2007.

UK Payrolls Drop More Than Expected in Weak Jobs Market
Britain’s employers shed workers at the fastest rate in nine months, according to figures that emphasized the weak state of the jobs market ahead of the Bank of England’s latest interest rates decision on Thursday.
The number of employees on company payrolls slipped 26,000 in August after a downwardly revised 19,000 fall the previous month, the Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday.

Japan Eyes Defense Spending at 3.5% of GDP After US Pressure
Japan is considering a new mid-term defense spending target of 3.5% of GDP in line with NATO and other US allies, a move that could send a shockwave through financial markets concerned about Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s spending plans.
Japanese defense officials have already signaled a willingness to sharply increase defense spending in meetings with their US counterparts, according to people familiar with the matter.
