US GDP Growth Softens Despite Strong Consumer, Investment
The US economy grew at a weaker-than-expected pace in the second quarter, though a pickup in consumer spending and solid business investment signaled underlying strength.
Inflation-adjusted gross domestic product increased an annualized 1.5% in the three months through June, according to an advance estimate issued Thursday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The euro-area economy expanded more than anticipated in the second quarter, demonstrating its continued ability to weather the fallout from the Iran war.
Gross domestic product rose 0.4% from the previous three months following stagnation at the start of 2026.

Japan Trims Its Economic Outlook as Oil Prices Weigh on Growth
Japan lowered its economic growth forecast for the current fiscal year, reflecting expectations that higher oil prices driven by tensions in the Middle East will weigh on domestic demand and add urgency to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s efforts to address rising costs of living.
The government cut its projection for real growth in fiscal 2026 to 0.9% from the January forecast of 1.3%, the Cabinet Office said Thursday.
