United States:

Treasuries Drop as Jobs Data, Iran Tensions Fuel Rate Hike Bets

 

Treasuries fell as investors ramped up bets that the Federal Reserve will need to raise interest rates, while tensions in the Middle East added to inflation concerns.

 

Yields rose as much as two basis points across the curve, with the biggest moves in the five-year sector which is one of the tenors more sensitive to changes in Fed policy expectations.

Europe:

Europe’s Imports of Diesel and Jet Fuel Shrivel as War Drags On

 

Europe’s imports of diesel and jet fuel stagnated for a second month in May, piling pressure on regional energy supplies as the Iran war grinds on.

 

Shipments into the European Union and UK totaled just 1.16 million barrels a day last month, down by more than a third from a year earlier, according to data from Vortexa compiled by Bloomberg.

Asia:

Japan’s Growth Holds Up Despite Drop in Business Investment

 

Japan’s economy grew at a still solid pace at the start of the year even after the turbulence in Iran prompted businesses to cut investment.

 

Real gross domestic product expanded at an annualized pace of 1.8% in the first quarter, down from an initial reading of 2.1%, the Cabinet Office reported on Monday.
