United States:

US Benchmark 10-Year Yield Briefly Hits Highest Since 2002

The US benchmark yield touched its highest level since 2002, the latest milestone in a monthslong selloff in global sovereign debt.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note briefly rose above its 2007 peak to trade at 5.34% on Thursday.

Europe:

UK Is First Big Economy With 6% Bond Yield Since Euro Crisis

The UK’s long-term borrowing costs hit 6% for the first time in almost three decades, making it the first Group of Seven economy to pay a rate that high since the euro crisis was raging in 2012.

The moves that took 30-year gilt yields to their highest since March 1998 coincided with a fresh slump in global bond markets, driven by concern spiking oil prices will reignite inflation.

Asia:

Japan’s Biggest Firms Remain Confident Even as BOJ Raises Rates

Confidence among Japan’s largest firms remains elevated with sentiment among manufacturers rising to the highest level in more than eight years, a result that suggests the Bank of Japan can continue raising interest rates without buckling corporate optimism.

The sentiment index climbed to 24 in September from 22, improving for a sixth straight quarter, the BOJ’s quarterly Tankan business survey showed Thursday.
