US Jobless Claims Eased Last Week to Lowest Level Since July
Applications for US unemployment benefits fell slightly last week to the lowest level since July, showing layoffs remain limited across the job market.
Initial claims eased 2,000 to 197,000 in the week ended Oct 3., according to Labor Department data released Thursday. It marked the fourth straight week that applications have been below 200,000.

Germany Doubles 2026 Outlook as Manufacturing Rallies
Germany more than doubled its growth forecast for this year after a stronger-than-expected first half, as robust exports and a surge in government spending outweighed weak consumer activity.
Gross domestic product is expected to expand by 1.3% in 2026 — the fastest jump since 2017 — and 1.1% in 2027, the Economy Ministry said in its autumn projection.

Takaichi Says Japan’s Economy Doesn’t Need Reflationary Policy
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Japan no longer needs policy to stimulate inflation as the economy isn’t in a state of deflation anymore, echoing a comment made recently by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
“Japan’s economy is no longer at a stage where it needs reflationary policies with monetary easing and fiscal expansion,” Takaichi said in response to questions in parliament Thursday. Her policy “differs from so-called reflationary policy,” she said.
