US Retail Sales Rebound More Than Expected in Broad Advance
US retail sales rose by the most in five months in a broad advance, showing consumers continued to spend despite rising gas prices.
The value of retail purchases increased 1.2% in August after a revised 0.5% decline in July, according to Census Bureau data released Wednesday.
Europe:
Euro-Zone Wage Growth Set to Accelerate in 2027, ECB Says
Euro-area pay increases will likely pick up in 2027 while staying well below past highs, the European Central Bank said as it evaluates inflation risks from the Iran war.
The ECB’s wage tracker, published Wednesday, predicts salaries will rise by an annual 2.7% in the first quarter of next year and 2.8% in the second.
Asia:
Japan’s Export Growth Stays Solid as Shipments of Chips Jump
Japan’s export growth slowed a tad in August while remaining at an elevated pace, with shipments of semiconductors and chip manufacturing equipment surging.
The value of exports rose 19.3% from a year earlier, slowing from a 23.2% gain in July, the Finance Ministry reported Wednesday.
