US Wholesale Inflation Cools as War-Driven Energy Shock Fades
US wholesale inflation decelerated in July by more than estimated as energy and food costs fell, likely giving the Federal Reserve more time to assess price pressures at upcoming meetings.
The producer price index rose 4.7% from July 2025 after a 5.5% annual increase in June, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data out Thursday.
Europe:
Heat Wave and World Cup Hand UK Economy a Surprise Boost
The UK economy unexpectedly expanded in June, as sunny weather and World Cup football helped cap another quarter of healthy growth.
GDP rose 0.3% after flatlining in May, the Office for National Statistics said on Thursday. Economists had expected a 0.1% decline. It left growth in the second quarter at 0.4%, only marginally slower than the 0.6% in the first three months of the year.

Japan’s Producer Price Gains Stay High as BOJ Mulls Rate Path
Prices for Japan’s corporate goods continued to rise at an elevated pace in July, keeping high cost pressure on companies, as central bank officials continue to consider whether to proceed with additional interest rate hikes to contain inflation.
The measure of input prices for Japanese firms rose 7.2% in July from a year earlier, slightly slower than the revised 7.3% in June that was the highest since March 2023, the Bank of Japan reported Thursday.
